Carel Launches Monitor For Smaller Applications like C-Stores

Italian component manufacturer Carel has launched the Boss Micro, a local monitoring system aimed at applications like edge data centers, convenience stores and petrol stations.

Promoted under the tagline “The Boss of Small Systems,” the Micro is designed for refrigeration and air conditioning systems with a limited number of units that “still require the same user experience and advanced system management functions,” said Carel in a press release on June 24.

A wide choice of software components means the Boss Micro can optimize system performance in a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration applications, including natural refrigerant systems.

The Micro retains all the qualities of the larger units in Carel’s Boss range, including “extensive connectivity,” the company said. It integrates a number of communication channels to centralized data collection platforms, thereby enabling analytics and preventative logic to optimize system performance.

The Boss Micro is available in four different hardware versions, so as to offer a version to suit all types of needs, with Wi-Fi hotspots and 4G modem built in for remote access. The Micro is also fully compatible with mobile devices, and fully customizable, said Carol.

Like the rest of the Boss range, the Micro “implements the highest cybersecurity standards to ensure controlled and secure access to the information at all times, as well as undergoing a periodic security assessment, performed by outside organizations,” Carel explained.

A further benefit of the Boss Micro is the “extremely intuitive and user-friendly interface, ensuring simple and immediate interaction with the system for all users,” Carel said.

The Boss Micro can integrate with third-party devices and BMS systems using  common protocols in HVAC&R, which guarantees management of systems even when using multi-brand equipment, the company added.

“The Boss Micro is not a simple gateway, but rather an edge device in its own right, because in addition to connecting the field devices, it provides local processing, storing and displaying data as trends, as well as on intuitive and easy-to-navigate responsive web pages for all devices, even smartphones,” Carel concluded.

In addition to its Boss range of controllers, Carel also launched the RED Optimise earlier this year. RED is a web portal for centralized management of multiple sites, bringing together and processing data from all systems in retail, industrial, logistics and commercial applications.
