Bhutan and Vietnam Ratify Kigali Amendment

Bhutan and Vietnam ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on September 27, according to the United Nations website, bringing the total number of ratified parties to 83.

Bhutan’s Agriculture Minister, Yeshey Penjore, convinced the country’s legislative house of the importance of ratifying the Kigali Amendment according to an article posted on the online publication Daily Bhutan.

Penjore said that “the ratification of the convention would help the country to strengthen the capacity of its customs, technicians and industries through technical assistance,” the website states. “It will also help to fortify projects related to technical training institutes and improve Bhutan’s technical skills.”

As Article 5 parties, Bhutan and Vietnam will be expected to freeze production and consumption of HFCs in 2024, working towards an 80% reduction by 2045.
